Society is shifting at an incredibly fast pace. We are all experiencing significant changes in our lives and the world around us. Whoa! It all can feel tremendously overwhelming at times. At Discover You Counseling and Personal Wellness, we are committed to ensuring clients have access and are able to stay connected to their therapist despite these recent changes. During these times, it is extremely important to begin and continue to care for our mental and personal wellness. We are now providing online counseling in order to meet the changing needs of current and future clients.
What exactly is online counseling? Online counseling, also commonly referred to as Telehealth or Teletherapy, is offered through a secure platform in which therapists are able to connect with clients via two-way live video. Very similar to Skype or Facetime, online counseling allows you to meet with your therapist in real time through video calling.
Therapists and clients are able to interact as they would during an in person session. Your therapists may include hands on activities or other material to help facilitate session engagement. Some wonder how effective online counseling may be? This concern is very understandable. We get it! Some of us just prefer the personable feeling of a traditional session. However, research has found very little differences between in-person and video counseling when it comes to counseling impact. It really comes down to personal preference.
So, what are some perks of online counseling? Convenience! Online counseling allows you to have a session from the convenience of your home. Have children? Children love technology! Online counseling has been found to work well with children as they’re able to utilize an interactive platform. Also, online counseling is great for giving access to those who may not otherwise have had access to counseling. This could be due to various reason such as transportation, etc.
What do you need to get started? All you need is an internet connection, a tablet, smartphone or computer. Make sure you’re in a space where you feel comfortable discussing personal things. Your right to confidentiality and privacy are still intact regardless of traditional or online settings. Your session will be held over a secure platform to ensure compliance with privacy rights.
